Tournament Win At Jarvis Brook July 8, 2008
Posted by editor in : Matches , trackbackOur boys travelled to Jarvis Brook on Sunday 6th July for their annual football fiesta. Having fielded a very strong side we were looking to go one step further than the Ridgewaye and Langton Green tournaments and win our first winner’s trophy of the season. As usual we started slowly and snatched a 1-0 win against Ridgewaye, after losing 1-0 in our second game to Langton Green (to a very dubious penalty) the sign’s weren’t good, but the boys responded really well and we won the next 2 games 5-0 and 8-0, needing only a win in our last game to qualify the boys duly produced the goods and a 2-1 win put us into the semi final to face Langton Green again, this time we played them off the park winning 2-0 with goals coming from Leon and Jack.
We faced a tough Tonbridge side in the final who’d won every game so far without conceding a goal! But it was the Grasshoppers who took hold of the game and looked to score with some neat interplay and opened the tally when Leon scored direct from a free kick to give us a half time lead. Our lead was soon doubled when Jack finished at the second attempt after hitting the post. At 2-0 down Tonbridge came at us and tried very hard to get back into the game and scored in the final minute past the impressive Gareth, but it was all to no avail and as the final whistle blew the Grasshoppers were crowned champions.
Well Done Boys!
The Under 9’s Celebrate with their well deserved trophies!
