11 Nov 2007: Hailsham 0:7 Grasshoppers November 14, 2007
Posted by editor in : Uncategorized , trackbackFirst the good news. The nationwide manhunt has been successful and the left back has been found and reunited with his team.
Now the better news. Last week, in my absence, the team had apparently been amazingly good. This week, with the Mouth restored to the touchline, the team was incredibly brilliant. Hailsham were a good team, with a number of very good players, including the keeper and two excellent midfielders wearing 4 and 5. Given half a chance, these two would have run the game, battering through opposition tackles and feeding their strikers, whilst also helping out the defence when necessary.
Sadly for Hailsham, no one had told our guys how good they were, so we ignored them from the start and just totally outplayed them from back to front. Danny wore out his tonsils again, always willing to get himself involved in the game. Sorry Danny, but I’m afraid I can’t remember you making a save, which says everything about a defensive performance from Max, Nick, Thomas and Harrison, which never let anything through. The discipline was brilliant. The tackles were tough and surgical. The organization was excellent. From the touchline, we can’t hear Nick and Thomas, but they must be talking all the time to get the level of understanding they do. Unless Nick is a triplet- which is an interesting but potentially troublesome concept.
The midfield was once again our powerhouse, with Robert, Cian and Tom close to unplayable. When they had the ball, they had no time to do anything before someone was tackling them. When we had the ball, we seemed to have all the time in the world to play in the strikers. And by the way, this game was largely played in conditions which would have annoyed a penguin. A hard cold wind and occasional driving rain made it always difficult to play.
Up front, Harry was as solid as ever,
Starting on the bench this week we had our first two CRAP award winners Mike and Connor. And just to show there is no justice, Mike came on in the second half, put in a performance which was miles better than anything he has done for us before, scored a goal, and gets the CRAP award again. There were only two instances in the whole game which came close to deserving it- one was an open goal inside the 6 yard box which went over the bar and the other was a goalmouth scramble where Mike had 3 chances to score and missed the ball completely with all 3 attempts. I am truly sorry Mike, because your performance in every other respect was excellent. If only there was an alternative!
Goals for Robert (2), Cian (2), Mike and that bloke who supports United (2). Honourable mentions this week for Tom (again), Cian (again), Taylor (again) and Mike, but the MoM vote went to Max Aldred, who went beyond his normal solid, dependable performance and epitomised the team performance by getting forward, backward, wide and narrow. It seemed that everywhere Hailsham had the ball, there was Max taking it away from them and then doing something brilliant with it. Well done Max- it’s easy for red shirted goal hangers to win awards, but much harder for defenders!
I haven’t bothered to check the league table this week, but we still haven’t played the teams above us and if they have any brains, they are very very worried! Keep it up guys!
