Please remember it is very easy to count how many goals have been scored but a lot more difficult to measure how many saves have been made or how well we have defended and created goals, but if you look at the record two goals conceded then they must be doing a great job and every body must be helping create chances.

This local “derby” looked on paper to be a difficult challenge and for the first period it looked like that would be the case, Maresfield came ready to attack and we were just a little bit to relaxed allowing to much space and several shooting opportunities, fortunately Dan was not in the mood to be beaten and Paul, Kane, Tom and Sam got organised very quickly and protected our goal.

Once Ollie and Ben got control in the middle we were soon able to bring Charlie and Benjo out wide into the game and it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken with Sully scoring at the near post from a good run by Harley. This really gave us a lift and the pace of the game picked up the passing got neater, quicker and soon more goals came.

It is fair to say that Marefield’s goalkeeper Harry played really well and made some great saves at the feet of onrushing players and caught the ball well, he did his best to keep the score down. At half time the coach made three subs changing both full backs and Sully our jet propelled centre forward. Reece Callam and George came on and very quickly got into it, more neat passing and great finishing meant more changes could be made towards the end giving everybody a fair amount of time on the pitch.

Boys

What can I say, we went with a bear 11 players, and put in a fantastic performance, special thanks and congratulations to Sam who stepped in at the last minute to go in goal and a had very good game, Reece on his debut scored two goals one I might add with his head, Ollie my man of the match scored two goals and covered every blade of grass on the pitch at least three times with his running, and then my own speed machine Sully with two goals and unlucky not to get more. So they scored the goals and saved them but the other seven Paul, Kane, Chazzer, Benjo, Ben, Harley and Tom all played a very valuable part and worked hard in difficult windy conditions to get the ball down and play football.

Our first touch and speed of passing was a joy to watch and testament to the training James has been doing with you (thanks James).

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday training 6.00 West Park.

Wow

What a start to the new season, the game got of to a frenetic start with three goals in the first 8 minutes the pace may of been quick but some of the passing and movement was fantastic. I asked before the game for total effort, a good attitude and to pass and move I got it .

New players Tom and Ollie slotted in straight away, with both scoring on their debuts before half time and Sam another debutant came on at half time defended well and then got forward to create chances down the left flank . But it was an old hander Ben S playing in centre of midfield who stole the show scoring 6 including one penalty that nearly tore the net from the posts.

Although six goals in a game is a great feet I did not give Ben the MOM, I had 13 MOM’s everyone of them adding something to a truly great football feast, goalscorers always get a mention and they will here (Ben S 6, Chazzer, Benjo, Tom, Ollie, George, Dan S (Sully from now on) ) but we needed Kane, Paul, Harley, Callam, Sam and Dan T to stop them going in at the other end and to help set up the scorers.

In all fairness to Forest Row they were a little depleted in numbers of players available for the match but the 11 who played showed great character and sportsmanship on a difficult day for them.

Season 2007-2008 Players needed

The dust has barely settled on the last season and I am already making plans for the new season 2007/08 as Under 13’s

Plans include a tour next May to Holland, where we will compete against other European teams over a 3 day period, a great oppotunity to meet and hopefully make new friends.

We will be competing in the Jarvis Brook Tournament on 7th July and our own tournament the following weekend 14th/15th July to be held at UCTC.

Pre season training will start on Saturday 18th August where I hope to see some new faces.

In order to be competative we require a few new faces to join our band of merry men, we currently play in Division B of the Crowborough league where we finished mid table last term, and are looking to do better next season, without jeopadising an excellent team spirit.

UCKFIELD GRASSHOPPERS UNDER 12′S TRAINING

Uckfield Grasshoppers will hold there last training session at West Park this Sunday 6th May before the Council close all the pitches for annual maintenance.

If you are in School year 7 and would like to come along and join in the fun we will meet at West Park, 10.00am Sunday morning.

Further training sessions are planned during the summer, so if you are unable to come along on Sunday look out for future updates or give us a call.

LAST GAME OF THE CURRENT SEASON

Uckfield Grasshoppers ended ther Season on a high note with a 2-1 win V Tonbridge C.

The Goal came midday through the 1st half with a looped header by Daniel Jenkins direct from a corner. Uckfield continued to press but were unable to add to there tally during the remainder of the half.

The 2nd goal came 5mins into the 2nf half from a defence splitting ball from Ben Stafford setting Daniel Sullivan away who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the tonbridge net.

Being 2-0 down Tonbridge began putting pressure on the Uckfield Goal and there efforts were rewared middway the 2nd half with a superb Goal from a free Kick.

Uckfield were unlucky to go further ahead 10 mins from time but were denied by the Tonbridge keeper.

The result means that the Grasshoppers finish the season in mid table of Division B of the Crowborough District Junior Football League
