Worth Park 2 Uckfield Grasshoppers 5 February 18, 2008

This group of players never ceases to amaze me said Gordon Buckland manager after what can only be described as a completely disjointed unadventurous and lack luster performance last week this weeks performance was very committed ,honest, skilful and above all else played with passion. The Uckfield team only had a bare eleven and was soon down to ten in the second half (45th minute) when Ryan Gothard came off with a foot injury, of those missing three are regular starters but those coming in were determined to make it difficult for them to return automatically.

The match started late after a frozen pitch meant we needed to change venue, the referee then took exception to Matt Skelton leaning on the opposing forward and gave a penalty in the second minute, Josh Imber although guessing the right way and getting a hand to it was unable to keep it out, 1 - 0 and thoughts of the previous week, but no the lads started to pass the ball around and after four or five attempts to break a very organized offside trap Chris Kelly found a great pass to set Ben Acey free who slotted home calmly 1-1 and now we were playing great football.

The game was played with good pace and after 70 minutes Uckfield led 2 - 4 two goals each for Ben Acey and Chris Kelly and at this point you would think game over but Worth Park weren’t going down without a fight and they looked capable of scoring but the fitness of Uckfield now coached by Aidan McManus showed and a late goal giving Ben his hatrick was very much deserved.

Captain for the day was Jake Siggs and having picked up some silly bookings this season he rose to the responsibility and was Man of the Match, his tackling, passing and drive for the team in centre midfield was a clear example for the rest to follow.

Uckfield Team Josh Imber, Tom Primrose, Matt Skelton, Sam Dickson, Ryan Gothard, Harry Knight, Jake Siggs, Craig Martin, Scott Lacon, Chris Kelly, Ben Acey.
