23 Sept 2007: Marle Place 5-5 Grasshoppers October 2, 2007

Posted by editor in : Uncategorized , trackback

This is the first post of the new season and this was our fourth league game in the Mid-Sussex A league.  Quite frankly, there hasn’t been anything worth writing about up to now and my mum always told me if I couldn’t say something positive not to say anything at all.

Sticking to that principle, I will also say nothing about the first half performance or the fact that our captain had to be substituted for his own safety at half time, by which time we were 4-1 down.

Five minutes into the second half we were 5-1 down and dead and buried.  At this point the team decided, individually and collectively, that this was unacceptable.  The whole squad then embarked upon a passage of 35 minutes of football which was breathtaking in its simplicity, brutality and effectiveness.  We quite simply put the opposition to the sword.  Every single player played their full part in annihilating their opposite number and the

team as a whole.

It almost seems unfair to single out individuals for specific praise, but I thought Ryan was excellent when he came on and Ben worked hard throughout and eventually got his reward.  Goals for Ben (2), Craig (2) and Sam.  My Man of the Match was Ben and the CRAP award goes to JP for the first (and hopefully last) time.

The best way of summarising the match is to report what their managers said as they walked onto the pitch at the end of the match.  Having been 5-1 up, one turned to the other and said “We got away with that!”

It seems normality has been restored, so let’s now welcome Ryan and Tom properly to the club and welcome Scott back after a few years away and we can now get on with our last season in junior football.  God help Hailsham next week!
