What a great performance !

We started the game with 10 men and it quickly became clear that Harry was not fit to play, even though he soldiered on into the second half.  Despite a two man disadvantage, we tore into

Crawley from the start and within 15 minutes we had a two goal lead and had missed a penalty.  Some of the football was breathtaking, with Nip and Jake up front working brilliantly with Craig, Sam and J-P going forward.

We started the second half as we finished the first, scoring early on and giving them problems all over the park.  Inevitably, the 9 tired against a full squad of 14, so our defence came under increasing pressure as the game went on.

Crawley pulled back two goals by the middle of the second half, but the defence and midfield held out against the odds until Nip added the pick of the goals with a great finish with about 5 minutes to go.

There can be no criticisms at all about the way we played the game.  The fitness levels, skill, attitude and self discipline were all first class.  Harry epitomised the strength of the team spirit by trying to play through considerable pain and the other nine players gave everything they had.  It speaks volumes that for most of the game it looked like

Crawley were the team with fewer players.

There were so many highlights, but the two most memorable for me were Matt’s leg growing by about six feet to reach a ball he had no right to get when their striker was clean through on goal and our fourth goal which included strength, pace, skill from at least three players in the build up, topped off by an unstoppable volley from Nip.  Goals from Jake, Craig, and Nip (2).

As Gordon said immediately after the game, everyone should be proud of their contribution.  Man of the Match selected by Gordon was J-P, who led from the front and was involved all over the pitch for the whole game.  Special mentions for Sam T, Craig, Nip and Jake, who also got through a staggering amount of work.  Harsh not to mention the back 3, but let’s face it, we expect excellence from them every week now!  CRAP award would normally go to Jake for missing a penalty (his first ever miss), but this week the only winner can be Ben for breaking his arm!  I assume Richard will be cleaning J-P’s boots as Ben can’t!

Seriously, best wishes to Ben for a speedy recovery.  We need you back for the tour!
