COACHING AND MATCHES January 18, 2007
Posted by editor in : Uncategorized , trackbackPaul Issy has unfortunately had to drop out. Steve Imber has offered to take training on Monday evenings at the Leisure Centre, but this is dependant on him being able to book up the gym. He will be trying to do this so that we can start next Monday evening. Ollie Knight, who is a personal fitness trainer as well as Harry’s better looking brother, has kindly offered to come and help with some fitness work when he can. If any other parents/brothers/friends can help, then please contact Steve, Gordon or I.
On Saturday mornings, we want to continue the training sessions at Victoria Pleasure Ground from 10-11.30am. Even though the state of the ground was poor, last Saturday’s session was well worth having and it was great to see so many there. Again, Gordon will try and post any changes to this on the website, so players, please keep in touch.
On match days, Gordon and I will take the team and I’m sure the lads will execute our well thought out and intelligent tactics to the letter.
I am conscious that there were some parents not there on Friday, who may well be better able to contribute to the coaching/management than me. So if Roger Kelly, Richard Acey, or any of the other parents would like to get involved and help Gordon, then I’d be happy to step back.
On home match days, we need some help to put up/take down nets, corner flags, sort out the changing rooms etc. Sunday was great, with loads of Dads sorting it out once I’d found the key to the store! It does mean that we need to get there a bit earlier though- preferably an hour before kick off.
Lastly, on match days, some of us normally repair to the pub afterwards to discuss the finer points of Sammy D’s boots, or Craig’s latest injury, over a few diet colas. Everyone is of course welcome, even if you do have proper lives.
NEXT YEAR
At this stage we don’t know whether the boys will want to carry on into the U-16 league, which would be their last year of football with the Grasshoppers. If we carry on our current form, there is an excellent chance that we will win promotion this year, so we will play our last year in the top league. There was a strong desire amongst the parents that the team should carry on next year, but obviously this will be up to the team. Over to you lads.
Assuming we do carry on next year, we discussed setting up something really special so that the lads sign off in style. This will be a special tour to somewhere which will make our previous tours look very ordinary indeed! Possibilities include the (if Beckham can do it why can’t we?), , or
TOUR
Mark Skelton didn’t step back quickly enough and has therefore volunteered to help Gordon arrange this year’s tour. Gordon has done a good deal of research already, with the most likely destinations at the moment being
As noted above, next season we are planning something really special, which is likely to cost a bit more than past tours. This will mean that we will have to start giving some thought to fundraising and we will expect the boys to do their bit. So guys- please start thinking about things you can do, either alone, in small groups, or as a team, which can help raise some funds for the tour.
ANNUAL DINNER This is Sat 27 Jan at Barnsgate Manor. Cost is £51 per couple and at the moment the U-15 team is not well represented. Do please try and come and support the club. Having been before, it is certainly an excellent night and Gordon has promised not to speak, which is an added bonus. If you can come, please contact either Gordon, or Moira Saunders asap, or just reply to this mail with your details and I’ll pass them on.
