“I don’t know how you didn’t win”
Quote from the Referee Tunbridge Wells Foresters v Uckfield Grasshoppers.
Indeed given the quality of football played from front to back it would be easier to work out how to grow seedless grapes than to work out how the lads didn’t come away with a victory in a match where they largely dominated play.
At one point you could have been forgiven for thinking it was sky sports filming The Crossbar Challenge as both teams landed the ball on the crossbar.
A special mention for Brandon who put in an immense performance, his best to date in the eyes of some of the spectators. There was very little he didn’t win and broke down Foresters advances on a number of occasions. Keep up the good work. On the subject of the defence a mention also for Harry (the one not called Crispy) who showed his old man that his left foot is not just for standing on by bring it out of retirement for hearty challenge, which stopped another Foresters advance. So impressed was Phil, doing the line, that he gave Grasshoppers the throw resulting from Harry’s left foot clearance. Luckily the referee was up with play and wisely ignored his bumbling Lino.
The quality of passing at times was sublime and so carried away with their newfound passing ability that at times it was overdone and chances on goal were not taken. Indeed so carried away were they that I’m sure I heard Fergus go ‘Ole’ on a number of occasions when his passes went to feet.
Unfortunately so good was the interplay in midfield that the strikers, Toby and Matt, felt the need to join in the passathon and there were few efforts on goal. A few more shots on goal next match please!
The Grasshoppers goal was a good example of keeping play moving before the opposition get themselves set up to defend. Toby (what were you doing back there?) quickly gathering a throw in and sending Jarvis through before Foresters had a chance to get back. With a clear run on goal Jarvis made no mistake.
It was against the run of play that Foresters equalised in the second half and going into the final minutes they stole the lead following a collective lack of concentration. With the seconds ticking away Foresters were able to hold on to their lead and went out 2-1 winners. It would be fair to say the second half was not as good as the first, so I’d recommend the coaches dont consider after dinner speaking anytime soon, as that half time team talk and subsequent team changes didn’t work!
However, it was a good hard fought game played in a good spirit with an encouraging performance from the team, who played some of the nicest football so far this season. Richard however was last seen going into Tunbridge Wells Police Station where he apparently tried to report his team had been mugged!!!
The team showed a good work ethic with everyone trying right up to the final whistle. Let’s hope that this attitude is brought to training as we have seen a glimpse of what hard work can bring. Let’s keep it up.
